HOW ACUPUNCTURE WORKS - According to Chinese Theory, there is an energy flow in our body. If there is disturbance of this energy flow, we get a disease. By putting needles at certain points, the energy flow is regulated and the disease is cured. - Once the needles are inserted, Endorphins are released in the brain which are the natural pain relievers. Myosin is released which relaxes muscles. Serotonin is released which reduces Edema. - According to Korean theory, 12 organs in our body, (for example Liver, Heart, Kidneys etc.) control all the energies. - If the energy is in excess or deficit in an organ, balance of energy is disturbed and we get disease. - Thus by sedating or tonifying an organ we can balance the energy flow and cure the disease. - All Acupuncture points are situated close to blood vessels, small nerve bundles in the skin. Pain sensation from the skin is carried by marginal cells to the cortex via spinothalamic tract. Descending fibers from the cortex reach the spinal cord via medulla oblongata and inhibit the pain sensation by opiodergic mechanism. Once needles are inserted endorphin levels are increased in CSF. So the mechanism of Acupuncture is Opioid Eric and involves sympathetic and Autonomic nervous system. DURATION OF TREATMENT Average duration of treatment is 10 to 50 days depending upon the duration and chronicity of disease.
